Infinity Hearts

How big is infinity? Really, really big. That’s how much potential there is for love in this universe. And it’s that connection with abundance that I want to convey in these two special paintings.

Visit Marietta Square Artists Attic tonight to see my two “Infinity Hearts” on exhibit as a preview to their Dutch Auction on March 29th, benefitting the Foundation for Hospital Art.

Beachside Doodle

I sat down to doodle some trees, and this is what I got.

The colors reminded me of a beach instead. I can’t remember the last time I was at a beach. Maybe 1999? Back then, 2012 seemed so far away.

I’ve been reading a lot of lists of resolutions and predictions for 2012. Barney Davey’s list of Three Words for 2012 inspired me to share my “Buzzword for the Month,” or week, or whenever I think of a better buzzword…

Portability — That’s my magic word of the moment. I need to gather my collection of portable art tools so I can create wherever I am, at any time. I have a goal to produce a lot more art, and I rarely have hours to spend working in my studio. I can take advantage of every moment if I have the right tools with me. My new Wacom is much smaller than my last one, and I think I found a pen setting that is similar to the brush pens I like to use, so I plan on bringing it with me to all of my favorite doodling spots.

Art on the Square Tomorrow

I feel very fortunate to be a part of Marietta Square’s growing art scene. From the First Friday Art Walk, to the second Saturday Artists Market, there are always amazing opportunities to experience this rich cultural community.

Stop by and say hi at the Artists Market tomorrow, 9am to noon. I’ll be in the DuPre’s booth, right next to the Farmers Market on Mill Street. Parking tip: The parking deck off Cherokee Street is free on the weekends. Coffee tip: Cool Beans opens at 8:30am on Saturdays.

Enjoying a bite at the Marietta Pizza Company.

Save the Date: Marietta’s own Symphony on the Square will be performing Thursday, May 5 at 7:30pm, in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church in Marietta.

I’m a Fool for Flowers

Spring is here, and I’ve been inspired to start a new series of flower drawings. I hope to have 12 done by April 1st to put in my folding screen for the next Art Walk.

This is a detail from “Autumn Bellflower:”

I am trying out some new fine point Stabilo pens to color in my drawings. Along with my colored pencils, I think they add an interesting texture to the background.

I hope to see you all at the next First Friday Art Walk at Marietta Square, coming up April 1, 2011. The Art Forum at DuPre’s Antique Market will be open extended hours to host Artists Alley, from 5pm to 9pm.

After doing a few of these color studies, I went back to a couple older line drawings to embellish them.
