This is a little experiment I worked on after reading an article about ivy leaves and hearts symbolizing snakes. I’ve been making progress on my Strange Costumes altered book project. Check out Chapter 3 at the Cafe Crem blog if you’re curious.

Racing through the unknown,
I forgot to stop and look
At the view.
The shifting hue,
Sparks that flew, fresh and new,
Decorating my landscape.
A gentle breeze where
Flowers grew;
Electric blue, stirring up
My garden of lost wishes.

Cyan has been my favorite color to use lately in my art. I titled this piece Electric Blue, hoping it would inspire a poem. This first attempt sounds a little forced to me, based on a list of words that rhyme with “blue;” but it is growing on me.

I wasn’t expecting my butterfly art to turn out so dark, but sometimes art just happens like that.

I was rather taken with this small, colorful octopus at the local aquarium.

I started this piece a year ago. I just blew some of the dust off to finish it. I’m excited to discover how to do a drop shadow in Photoshop!

I finally got the time to go through my sketchbook from May. This was one of my favorites.

I have a particular fondness for honeysuckle, after finding it surrounding my campsite in Tennessee last year.

I’ve been paying more attention to nature this summer. I’m always amazed with the small details, and when I find little hearts in a leaf, I can’t help writing a poem.

I’ve been practicing drawing faces lately. Most of them look grumpy. But I found a few that looked interesting together. I try to imagine their conversation, as they sit in a garden together, sipping tea.

I am excited to announce that my piece “Lines of a Woman” is showing at the Atlanta Artists Center, at 2979 Grandview Ave., for the First Thursday Gallery Walk in Buckhead tomorrow night, July2 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
